We've had 4-8 hummers daily since about 3/2010. Three days ago on about 9/19/10, hummers suddenly increased to 18 to 20. There were breeds of hummers we have never had before, with little spikes on the top of their heads, and some with different coloring and markings, 5 feeding at one time, It was wonderful!
Yesterday, as they were swarming, a hawk swooped down right in front of us. We don't know if it was successful in catching one, but of course, they scattered for about 10 minutes and then returned. The hawk swooped down again, right in front of us. The hummers scattered. But this time only about 4-5 came back. Today, we're down to 2-3 only.
If anyone can suggest what we should do about the hawks, please let us know. The hawks have not returned, and we are hoping it's bacause they were unsuccessful in their attempts, due to the speed of the hummers. But, we are so sad that they scared them away. Does anyone else have a prob with hawks?
