Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/18/2010

Number: 1

We were hiking at the Outer Harbor Nature Preserve, located on Lake Erie in Buffalo,NY- last Saturday (9/18) and we came across hundreds of Monarchs, perhaps a thousand! It was very windy and there were at least 5-10 of them on each goldenrod plant that we could see, there were many plants that were inside the outer area, that we could'nt see! They were flying all over the place and it was an awesome sight! It looked like Christmas tree ornaments, swaying in the wind! There were also some Viceroy Butterflys and I found my very first, ever Buckeye, too! My observation time: I was watching for _2__ hours and _30__ minutes.
