Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/21/2010

Number: 1

A male monarch flew into my yard today at 1:30 p.m.! He is very fresh and new looking with excellent color. He is resting in the shade near the milkweeds and occasionally flies around to nearby plants. Amazing since in the last three days we had record highs of 109, 111, and 106 degrees. Today it was 100 degrees when he appeared.

Note: He is still patrolling the milkweed in our yard two days later. This afternoon another male monarch appeared with a hole in his right wing. They sparred a bit and eventually the first male drove him off! He is spending the night in a nearby tree. My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and ___ minutes.
