Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/22/2010

Number: 40

At 3:00 p.m., I noticed Monarchs flying around in the backyard. The best estimate would be 30-40 observed. It was windy and the Monarchs seemed to be finding places in the trees, out of the wind to rest. I went inside to get the camera and take some photos. They were easily disturbed when the dogs would walk under the trees where they were gathered. A narrow band of thunderstorms were moving from the SW to the NE during this time period. My observation time: I was watching for 45 minutes.
