Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/20/2010

Number: 200

I was on campus at William Jewell College and thought I saw falling leaves. Upon closer inspection I found it was hundreds of monarch butterflies on one tree! It was the most beautiful, amazing thing I have ever seen. They would fly away from the tree and then return and rest. They stayed approximately three days (9/20-22).

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 200 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds.”
