Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/26/2010

Number: 200

Hundreds of Monarch Butterflies roosting in a Birch Tree next door to me. Starting at 6:58pm for two minutes I counted 41. This was after watching hundreds of them for about 45 minutes. The sky was literally full of floating Monarchs. You could not look up without seeing them all over. It seemed the majority were headed for and began roosting on the Birch Tree. It is the most Monarch Butterflies that I have seen since the mid to late 1960's. This is a good thing!

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 200 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds.”
