Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/26/2010

Number: 200

At about 6:40pm this evening we noticed numerous monarchs fluttering above the tops of our hedge trees where the west sun light was beaming. We observed with much excitement for about 20 minutes watching them dive in and continue to flutter their wings until settling as the sun set. There were easily hundreds of them spanning across the tree tops approx. 100 yards long. It was an amazing sight to see them in our own backyard! We will be anxiously awaiting the arrival of more over the coming days!!

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 200 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds.”
