Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/25/2010

Number: 1

66 butterflies counted in 10 minutes, all flying south-west parallel to Lake Erie shoreline. Most flying between 10 feet and 300 feet above ground. Hundreds of other Monarchs are at ground level throughout the park feeding on nectar plants. Recently the weather has been very warm with strong head winds and the butterfly numbers dropped. Weather is now cooler with favourable winds for butterfly migration so they're back in larger numbers. The peak at Clearville Park was Sept 17 when I counted 5 thousand per hour moving through the park. My observation time: I was watching for 10 minutes.
