Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/27/2010

Number: 300

We observed a few Monarchs on 9/26/10 during the day around our flower beds. On 9/27/10 at approximately 1845 hours, we observed hundreds of Monarchs flying into three of our Post Oak trees to roost. We observed the Monarchs until 1930 hours and the number had to reach into the many hundreds. We always have Monarchs roost at our house and we have approriately named our property Monarchs Rest. We are on a hill six tenths of a mile North of Heyburn Lake and about twenty miles West of Tulsa. The Monarchs provide a spectacular sight as they glide in and select a roosting place for the evening. It is truly a wonderful gift from God.

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum 300 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “many hundred.”
