Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/27/2010

Number: 1

Yesterday there was a steady movement across the Midwest City area and last evening (9/27) there was a heavy roost in our back yard, about one half mile east of Douglas. We have seen this in the past. The pecan trees seem to be the favored targets with the majority coming to roost between 5 pm or so and sunset. They seem to favor the west side of the trees, about 30 to 50 feet off the ground lighting on branches which remain warmed by the sun's rays until sunset. I did not observe this morning's lift off as I left before sunrise.Enjoy the Fall and the migrations.
Best wishes to all.

Editor's Note: This observer did not specify the number of monarchs present. We entered 'one' in the number field only to mark this record for future consideration.
