Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/28/2010

Number: 1

I've had a not-so-grand total of 3 (or maybe just two...it's hard to tell!) hummingbirds this year, all female ruby-throats. They were very territorial, not even letting another bird go to a separate feeder, even though there were large hanging baskets of flowers in between the feeders. Today was sunny but cooler than normal for this date. I had put out fresh nectar the night before. Between 2:30-4:30 PM, one female ruby-throated hummingbird was zipping around both feeders, moving around more than usual, rather than just feeding. She also drank from the really tiny purple flowers in a hanging basket.
