Like a falling leaf, a single Monarch glided down yesterday about 5 pm. On beautiful wings, it hovered just above the grass, drawn to the sticky sweetness of fallen pears. Nectaring briefly, it traveled on, flying so close to the ground that I could almost feel the weight of it's long journey. Each passing traveler lends a sense of awe and gives such a heartlift as you face the challenges of the day. Every day problems seem pretty small when you realize what a small insect faces on such daunting journey against such a huge backdrop of changing weather, wind, and obstacles like the Great Lakes.
