Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/26/2010

Number: 1

I know this sounds unlikely and suspect, but I believe the person who reported this incident to me is very capable of recognizing and identifying Monarchs from other species. I provided the manager of our local Safeway store with milkweed plants several years ago when he expressed interest in attracting Monarchs. He has been an enthusiast ever since. He sought me out on Monday, September 27th to tell me that he had seen a Monarch in his yard the previous day. I acknowledged that we had very late sightings in our area this year but the last I was aware was 6 weeks ago and I thought THAT was late. Friends in Sandy Hook, MB at that time had 5th instar caterpillars and chrysalids, which is totally outside the norm for our area...and they're significantly north of my location. My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and ___ minutes.
