Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/01/2010

Number: 1

As I returned from lunch today around 2:00 pm I noticed a single butterfly circling around the parking lot, repeatedly landing and taking off. I watched for about 15 minutes and took several snapshots which tonight I identified as a Monarch. It appeared the butterfly might have been searching for water as it has been dry for several weeks. The butterfly would land, then flash his wings in a pattern of closed for 10 or 15 seconds, then flap. The pattern was repetitive enough that I got several pretty good pictures with wings spread. Weather was sunny, around 70 degrees F and a beautiful day with fair winds. My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and __10_ minutes.
