Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/02/2010

Number: 1

While it was still dark I saw one of our 4 hummingbirds at one of the feeders. I haven't seen any of them since then. They have faithfully watched over and used the three nectar feeders around the house. One male and 2 females and maybe a young male. The female who guards the feeder outside my office window lets me know by buzzing the window when the ants have congregated too heavily and I oblige by knocking them off. Then she checks the feeder and sits down where she can see. I think the ants found the feeder because of nectar that spilled onto the ground. They found the path up the tree to the right branch and the feeder. It is outside a second story window. I am interested to know if that is what happened, or if someone knows another answer. I am thinking of tagging the ants and watching to see if they come back after I knock them off. There are wasps too that think the feeder is theirs and guard it. My own little community outside my window. No need to play SIMS.
