The male American Goldfinches are changing from their vibrant summer yellow mating color to a drab brownish color. The changing color is not symetrical and looks patchy. These birds are migrant here and I guess they'll be leaving soon too.
We found english walnuts on the ground at Memorial Park in New Kensington, Pa. I saw a Eastern Gray Squirrel bury an acorn in the front lawn near the street of a home in Edgewood pa. The nighttime temp. is suppose to go into the upper 30's the first time since May 12th, daytime highs to be in the 50's first time since May 10th. Fresh homegrown apples and apple cider plentiful at the local apple orchard (daughtery's) There is around 50 apple orchards in the greater pgh. area but just 2 east of pgh.
Three seperate fox attacks on people in the last couple weeks. Careful not to run over brown toads in grass and leaves with lawn mower. Chipmunks packing their mouth pouches full of criiter food at the squirrel feeder and taking it back to their hole. They repeat this over and over. Can hear the band and loudspeakers faintly on some friday evenings from Plum High. And oh yeah, the Black and gold fever that most in these parts get in the autumn, most prevalent on Sundays.
