Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/02/2010

Number: 1

While I still have about 65 chrysalis left to go, I was relieved today to be out in my waystation and saw 5 monarchs that were not tagged. Most of the monarchs in the garden for the past month have been my tagged ones that hang around for a couple of days. I figured the peak was starting here. So we went to Lynch Park in Beverly and sure enough, as I reported in the first week of October two seasons ago, there were monarchs everywhere. I was able to tag 18 of them but ran out of tags. I'll go back tomorrow with more tags. Sunny day, North Easterly winds, very favorable for the trek SouthEast. I suspect that because we are so close to the warmer ocean waters, that we lag behind in the standard Peak times for our latitude. My observation time: I was watching for 1 hour.
