For 9/27 through 10/2. No hummingbird sightings or sound from 9/27 through 9/30. Observations limited to short duration in late afternoon. On 10/1 around 5 PM while watering flowers in back yard, observed single hummer hover over feeder near where watering, then fly back into overlying oak tree. A few minutes later, flew around corner of house. Next morning, observed at least two hummingbirds in back yard - once territorial incident. Bird(s) fed several times over about 30 minutes on sage, abelia, cupheus, turk's cap and rose bush. No feeder activity. On 10/3, no sightings. Strong NE wind with passage of cold front before dawn.
