Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/03/2010

Number: 1

Yesterday, (10/03) saw a sharp increase in the number of monarchs out and about in Eagle Pass. Between 11 a.m and 1 p.m. I saw five. None in dedicated flight, but flying low, leisurely nectaring as they went south and southeast. Other sporadic reports also came in of ones and twos spotted in various parts of the county.

Today around 4 pm I saw only 1 monarch moving west to east in a 18 mile drive into the country.

This is VERY early to what we've seen in previous years. Last year the arrival date was the 18th.
