Today, at 1:45 PM, I observed a monarch butterfly on the ground near my house foundation in the shade. It was a female trying to fly, so I let her crawl onto my hand and I let her warm up in the 63F. temperature. Finally, she took off up into the air about 20' high and headed straight south.
