Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/05/2010

Number: 100

The Monarchs have begun arriving on the Grand Hotel resort property here in Point Clear, AL over the past couple of days.
They are floating in the breezes and congregating on the bottle brush and other shrubs, especially along the waterfront of Mobile Bay. They are also hanging in clusters from the Spanish Moss on the live oaks. The monarchs are usually in the area into November.

I've also seen numerous Pipevine Swallowtail butterflies here as well. My observation time: I was watching for 45 minutes.

Editor's Note: We are estimating a minimum of 100 monarchs based on the photos.
