Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/05/2010

Number: 1

Saw first ... netted same! We saw our first Coastal Flyway monarch just after noon today, nectaring on sunflowers and Altus went out in the marsh grasses and netted her first for the year. A large male, 54mm frt wings, tagged and heading SW now. We were on the peninsula to the north end of the Lavaca Bay Causeway ... a yearly spot to cross Lavaca Bay as they come from Floria, Alabama, Mississipi, Louisana along the Gulf coast and we think all the way up the Atlantic coast from above Cape May, we think! We had gotten a tip on Monarch Watch that they are coming towards us from the east along the coast. Our observation time: We were watching for 1 hours.
