Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/05/2010

Number: 1

Museum staff Jim Drummond and Bo Baker were teaching a Bay class at Grandview Nature Preserve in Hampton along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. They spotted a few monarchs as they walked the group in 9:15 to 9:30 am along State Park Drive towards the beach, and also a few as they walked the group out around 10:30 am, perhaps a total of 5 monarchs. The monarchs early in the morning were resting on Baccharis or basking, the ones later in the afternoon were nectaring or flying. Flights were westerly down the Drive itself to keep out of the wind. My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and _30__ minutes.
