Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/09/2010

Number: 1

Today, we were out in our boat on the Chesapeake Bay, just about 1/4 mile out from shore, and went to explore a tiny island (about 50 yards long and 30 yards wide with some marsh grass and small beach.) Don't think it has a name, really, but part of a group called Finney's Island, I believe. Saw a small patch of goldenrod and counted 6 monarchs clinging and nectaring. Weather has warmed up here these past few days from really low temps in 60's and below. Guess they were taking advantage of the gentle breeze and lovely sunshine making their way south across the water! My observation time: I was watching for _1/2__ hours and ___ minutes.
