Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/10/2010

Number: 1

This year I planted 7 Mexican milkweed plants in my backyard. Ever since, they've been a magnet for the Monarchs. To my pleasant surprise this past week which I consider late in the migration season, I noticed about 1-3 Monarch butterflies on the plants per hour. I even found a Monarch caterpillar and have put it in a large Ball canning jar with some fresh leaves. Back to the butterflies, they will start flying away but will circle around back to the milkweed. There are few flowers left elsewhere in the neighborhood. Seed pods have formed on the plants. Next year I hope to plant many more of this long lasting, wondrous plant.
