Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/09/2010

Number: 100

When the Gay Feathers start to bloom on my ranch & I see the "scouts" flitting around, I know that the Monarch are coming. I spent all day (10/08/10 & 10/10/10) searching the ranch for my butterfly guests. I was more than pleased to them hanging on to the Gay Feathers, drinking at the ponds edge & resting in clumps in the Oaks near the streams. My heart again soared! This group seems to be full of LARGE Monarchs. I can say that it is a healthy group compared to the migrations that came thru in the "drought" years. This year my ranch has had a good year of rain. The second day of observation was even better. I did notice that there were more butterflies around the pond & in the trees at dusk. The numbers were easily over 100 in a 25x25 area near the streams/creek & fields. God bless my little travelers!
