Signs of Fall

Date: 10/12/2010

Number: 1

We have seen signs of fall! The temperature today was 77 degrees F. The sky was mostly covered with high, thin clouds, the sun was shining, and there was a slight breeze. Two days this past week there has been a light frost on the roof of our school. The leaves on the dogwoods are turning red, the muscadine grape leaves are turning yellow, the sweetgum leaves are turning purple, and the tulip poplar leaves are turning yellow. We saw an oak tree with just the top of the tree turning orange. However, the main leaf color we are still seeing is green. A few leaves are falling off the trees, but we still cannot see into the woods. We are still able to find crickets in the green grass. We also found several moths, a yellow butterfly, a gray butterfly, a wasp, a fly, grasshoppers, a stink bug, and a centipede. We heard cardinals and even saw a female cardinal hunting on the ground. Fall has just begun and there are more changes that are going to happen!
