Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/08/2010

Number: 100

We took a walk on Friday afternoon and saw more than 100 butterflies roosting on a tree near our school. The weather was sunny and warm. These were taken at the tree that is nearby our school.

We picked up many butterfly wings from the ground beneath the tree where the monarchs were roosting and we are planning to look at them under a microscope tomorrow. Now that students have learned how to tell the difference between male and female butterflies, we want them to have a look for themselves.

Also: a few shots that were taken with a digital microscope as we studied some of the wings (found on the ground) in greater detail.
