Our school, Bales Intermediate School has created a Butterfly Discovery Garden. We planted both host and nectar plants to attract several different species of butterfly. We have Monarch butterflies in our garden every day. They are also still laying eggs and we have larva too. Other butterflies observed in the garden are Viceroy, Eastern Tiger, Black, and Giant Swallowtails, Gulf and Variegated Fritillary, Brazilian Skippers, and others have been reported. A hatch box was created so students could witness the life cycle. Both students, teachers and the local neighborhood have benefited from this project.
