Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/14/2010

Number: 1

The Monarch migration is picking up across Lavaca Bay. Today was the best since early November last year and will only get better. The three times Altus and I did timed counts today, we counted 153 monarchs in 135 minutes on the peninsula at the north end of the Lavaca Bay Causeway. Loose clusters were trying to form late in the afternoon (5:00+) but I guess it just wasn't cool enough because at sundown they hadn't gotten together very much, they were on the goldenrod, the false willow, salt cedar, the scrub brush ... but just not together! Our observation time was from 11:00am to 7:10pm.
