Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/15/2010

Number: 1

This evening, I observed a female ruby-throat fly to perch on the stalk of a blackberry lily, near one of our feeders. We have multiple hummers, male and female, ruby-throat, chasing each other around the yard. We still have some flowers, that they frequent, in bloom, and of course, our feeders. The stalk of the blackberry lily, near one of the feeders, seems to be one of their favorite perches. It seems that they perch there, and make their little chirping noise, as if to call their friend. Soon they are chasing each other all around. We plan to keep our feeders out all year, as we have in the past, because we have had hummers throughout the winter.

Sometimes when we are watering the patio plants, the hummers come within inches. Of course, we are standing very still, but they seem very accepting of us.
