Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/21/2010

Number: 1

I am at Atlantic Beach NC over the bridge from Morehead City, NC about a mile west of Fort Macon looking at the ocean from a 3rd floor balcony. About 8:30am my husband and I started watching for Monarchs and saw 38 in five minutes. A group of about 7 fluttered by and many individuals have flown by some close enought to our balcony to touch and some over the beach and water. A few danced with each other in spirals up into the air. The weather is lovely with little breeze and almost 70 degrees and sunny. Yesterday when there was more of a breeze we saw fewer (although didn't count). It is wonderful to see so many Monarchs...not a fill the skies, but a steady progression of butterflies making their way following whatever calls them. My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and __5_ minutes.
