On our fall vacation, we were delighted with the numerous Monarchs fluttering by our deck as we were enjoying the ocean view - an unexpected extra pleasure. :-) My observation time: I was watching for 2 hours. We saw the butterflies on Thursday afternoon and throughout midday on Friday.
