Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/22/2010

Number: 1

Friday, Oct 22

Kate Tufts reports from Chincoteague NWR that monarchs were migrating through today about 25 per hour. Seaside goldenrod is in peak bloom.

I also just received a call from my cousin who is vacationing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He said from mid-afternoon until dark, monarchs drifted by his 5th floor oceanfront balcony at an average of 2 per minute.

Both locations reported full sun, temps in 60s and 70s and northwest winds.
