Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/24/2010

Number: 1

At 2:45 pm. I was surprised to see a Monarch girl fluttering between 6 clusters of red and yellow flowers on two Mexican milkweed plants (which have outlasted many other flowers and plants in the yard). Although the outdoor thermometer indicated the temperature was 90 degrees, it felt like a nice Fall day. As the sun started to set and shadows from the house overtook the milkweeds, she would occasionally fly to and rest in a nearby sunny area; first on an evergreen tree and then the grass on the ground. There was an occasional breeze so maybe the ground was warmer or more stable allowing the butterfuly to rest more? Once warmed/rested, she would fly back to the flowers to sip more nectar. This beauty was there for two hours at least and then headed south. My observation time: I was watching for _2_ hours and ___ minutes.
