We hadn't had rain in southwest Wisconsin for about a month, so the soil was very dry and hard. It was tough going at first to get the tulips in the ground, but my second graders did not give up! They jumped right in and got the job done. We'll see if dry soil makes a difference in the number of tulips that emerge this spring. Highland Second Graders said the experience was: awesome, hard, fun, fantastic, cool, sweet, like planting onions, amazing, far out, and absolutely brilliant!
