Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/26/2010

Number: 1

I made a quick trip across Lavaca Bay to the peninsula at the north end at 4:30 ... parked on the shell next to the causeway and was watching hundreds of White-tipped Black Moths moving on past me to the SW out across the bay ... at 4:53, I had a monarch fly by to the SW. I had to leave at 5:20, but by then six monarchs had flown by to the SW to cross the bay ... so they have picked up a bit with the wind change from the extreme south winds of 25 to 35 mph yesterday, very dedicated flight at 3' moving to the SW. Was clear at 4:30, 89 dF, record breaking, wind S @ 8 mph. Front coming Thurs morning that could make things interesting along the coastal migration route if there is any NW wind late Thurs and Fri. I was watching 30 minutes.
