Ater seeing the hummer at the feeder at 7:15 a.m., we have now surpassed our latest observed date of a hummingbird of October 27 (we keep careful records each season going back over 10 years). We will only have temperatures in the low 40's today with a hard freeze tonight, so it will be interesting to see how long we will continue to see the bird. It is clearly a Ruby-throat (probably immature female) and not a Selasphorus (a much more cold-hardy hummingbird.)
