Our students planted their 'official' #1 site on 10/27/10.
Students planted their own campus experimental plots (#2, #3, #4) on 10/20/10.
The experimental plots each have their variables that make it very different from site to site.
#1 located near the shelter house. Mostly sun, partial shade during the evening winter times as the trees are located mostly north of the planting site. This site is grass only. We used a tiller to create a trench, students then added soil to create a 7" hole.
#2 is located in a flower bed near the flag pole. the soil already has had plants.
#3 is in the flower bed areas located under the windows of the school. There is a concrete sidewalk next to the planting areas. the dirt was VERY hard and students could only dig down about 3-4". We added 3-4" of topsoil to the beds.
#4 is located under a young tree in an open grassy area.
