Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/29/2010

Number: 1

For the last several days we have had warm humid windless days. Thursday's cool north wind finally moved out the monarchs that had been lingering along the bay. When I went out at 5:30 pm Thursday, I didn't see any monarchs. The wind also blew in a new batch of monarchs. I began my walk at 3:30pm today(Friday). I immediately found 50+ monarchs feeding on the tall bushes between my Portofino condo and Santa Rosa sound. I walk a path through these bushes to get to the sound. The bushes are taller than me. Further down the bay away from the condos the monarchs seemed to be staying further inland out of the strong north wind. The monarchs were more scattered but numbered at least100. When I began my walk there was more of a north wind at about 15mph. On my walk back the wind was more out of the NE. The temperature was 74. My observation time: I was watching for __1_ hours and _30__ minutes.
