This is not about MONARCH'S, but I think it will interest you if you are into Butterflies of all kinds. Today NOVEMBER 3, 2010 with a high temp of 50 degrees, We had an unexpected chryslis open early, and a BEAUTIFUL BLACK SWALLOWTAIL emerged. We had found 3 late summer, so we brought them indoors, but were keeping them in a cool part of our house, expecting them to over-winter as did some we had last year. About 3 weeks ago, 2 of the chryslis were taken over by a parasite, and a strange looking bug emerged from them, but the 3rd one stayed intact. We put the cage in an unheated part of the house, but it emerged way too early. He or she is so pretty, but it is much too cold to release it outside. Our nights have been down into the 20's. So I will keep it indoors and feed it as I am doing with a Monarch that can't fly due to his one set of wings not pumping up as they should have. I've had him 4 weeks and he is a dollbaby.Anyone with experience raising Swallowtails, please email me with advice. THANKS !!!!! my email is : mseroh@frontier.com
