Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 11/20/2010

Number: 1

We got our first frost and snow of the season last night. I wondered if the Anna's who lingered in the garden would still be here or if four inches of snow had driven them away. They were still here -- and so were half a dozen newcomers who seemed very hungry. They've been fighting all day long, even though there are enough feeders--14. But I added three more, just to make sure. Keeping the nectar from freezing is no chore today because the temperature only dropped down to 30 degrees and has stayed in the mid-thirties for much of the day. But it's supposed to drop into the low twenties for the next couple of nights--which means bringing in the feeders in the evening and setting a pre-dawn alarm to take them out again in time.
