Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 11/23/2010

Number: 1

The hummers are coming to the feeder almost non stop today. We have finally figured out how to keep the liquid warm for them and it stays outside all day and night. We took a large outside light bulb (like a security lite) and put into a weather proof socket and then used a large clamp to hang it on the shepherds hook that the feeder is on. The temp on the liquid is around 43 degrees and since the light stays on 24 hours, keeps the liquid warm. We did take off the perches so they have to keep flapping there wings to keep their body temp up and they don't get hypothermia and die.
