Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 11/24/2010

Number: 1

I have seen many deposited eggs and have seen five adults that may have emerged from our backyard. Temps are now in the low 40's at night and 58 deg during the day, so there probably won't be any flights today. The lowest temp where I've seen Monarch's fly is 60 deg.

Eggs found Nov. 23 on top of two leaves. One turned white-probably inert, and the other looks vital. Interesting in that it had rained steadily all night.

I brought in five caterpillars before the freeze, they pupated and flew yesterday and today (!). With Winter only three weeks away, I'm hoping to keep the critters going strong until Spring.

My observation time: I was watching every day, every hour or so-even on overcast cold days in search of eggs and caterpillars.
