Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 11/30/2010

Number: 1

I observed the female Ruby once again on my "flying saucer" feeder that has the honey and boiled water mixer in it. She really seems to like this! However, you MUST clean out and put fresh mixture in every 2-3 days to avoid fermentation! She was also nectaring (for the first time) on my firecracker bush (non-native but not invasive) and some young blue portweeds that have popped up from some other plant that I bought at a nursery. The are considered invasive, not just nonnative, because they send out rootlings. They are the ones that grow UP, as opposed to the natives that grow low and "creep". Just keep an eye on them and don't let them over too much (like passionvines). She also enjoyed a rain shower and perching in my "little" orange tree, as well as eating insects from my neighbors old oak tree, where she spends her nights.
