The weather on the ground was 32 degrees Fahrenheit. We had at least 1 inch of hard soil, water in the soil was frozen to a depth of 1 inch. Our trenches - seven inches deep had been prepared, because of weather and other factors our planting had been delayed. Because the soil was hard, the soil did not easily cover the bulbs. We had to move chunks of soil and break the soil up.
