This day is unusually warm. It rained heavily over the weekend and frozen ground is now soft. I have a welcome chance to plant again, because...
Last week third graders brain-stormed ways to plant tulip bulbs wrong because they know we can compare the results of those bulbs' growth (or non-growth!) to the "right" bulbs in the Spring. To make the results of a wrong garden interesting, here's what's different from the correct garden where bulbs are planted 7 inches deep and 4 inches apart. The wrong bulbs have are either too shallow, too deep, upside-down, sideways or not even covered with dirt. The wrong garden is too close to a building foundation and it is too protected from weather. There is only one bulb planted "right" in the wrong garden: that bulb will tell us something about the importance of WHERE a garden is planted.
Third and fourth graders will be thinking about when their bulbs will bloom. What dates will students choose? What dates will they predict blooming for gardens to the north and south, east and west of our school?
