Signs of Fall

Date: 12/21/2010

Number: 1

Hello from -20 F. in Shageluk, Alaska! We just wanted to tell you about our two days of entertainment in the skies! First of all, the Lunar Eclipse, December 20, 2010, was spectacular with clear skies and perfect viewing for us in the interior of Alaska.

Did you know the stars dim along with the dimming of the moon when the earth's shadow falls on it? I'm sorry, I just can't explain that! Does anyone know why? Many villages celebrated the eclipse by having a community bonfire and a night-time picnic. How would you like to have a picnic at -20 F? What a great way to celebrate the last day of FALL!

We will write again about our SHADOW MEASUREMENTS that we did on December 21, 2010 to celebrate the Winter Solstice!
