Tulips PLANTED

Date: 01/05/2011

Number: 1

Hello from Albany, Oregon. Our school is located in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley. This is the third year that our school has participated with the winter to spring portion of the Journey North tulip study. This week our 5th grade classroom planted a total of 26 Tulip bulbs. The weather here has been quite chilly - by our usual standards. Nighttime temperatures this week have averaged @25 degrees F. Daytime temperatures have hovered around 35-40 degrees F. Throughout this project our class will monitor and record week day above and below surface temperatures in our garden area using Vernier temperature probes and LabQuests. We will also be learning to monitor the soil moisture levels in our garden using Vernier soil moisture probes and the LEGO NXT robotics system.
We would welcome emails from other schools participating with this program. Good luck with your gardens!

Hazaa!
