Robin (OTHER Observations)

Date: 01/04/2011

Number: 1

Filed under "other observations" as I understand you only count one particular song as "first heard."

At about 7:30p tonight, I was out walking and paused at an intersection, when I heard the robin song that is at 0:31 on this page: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=1

I didn't see it since it was dark and it was probably in the bushes or a tree somewhere within about 15 feet of where I was standing. I only heard what sounded like one. (And caught the sound on video, which is available upon request.)

It was about 37 degrees at that location (a couple of blocks uphill from where I live), and it does appear that this area's 12/26/2010 - 01/01/2011 average temperature of 30-40 degrees correlates with the prevailing hypothesis.

It's a bit warmer now during the day, but it's back down to 36-38 right now. It apparently snowed a bit at that location in the last week (it snowed many places in Seattle, but I live downhill in a microclimate where there was none) since I had stopped to look at melting ice when I heard the call.

Editor's note: Peek and Tut vocalization heard in alarm situations.
